THE JOB – URINE TEST

Posted by martygrn on November 3, 2007

I HAVE TO PASS A URINE TEST FOR MY JOB… SO I AGREE 100%

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I
pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In
order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test
with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the
distribution of my taxes to people who don’t have to pass a urine test.
Shouldn’t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I
have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no
problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other
hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ASS, doing
drugs, while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much money the state
would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance
check? Or perhaps require a urine test to get a prescription for your

painkillers at the local ER?

    Hi Martygrn,

I hear ya! I was once driving in LA when I saw this bumper sticker… “Work harder, welfare is depending on you!”. I know what you’re saying about those who “sit on their ass and do drugs” while you work. I see that a lot down here especially in cities close to the Mexican border. What’s sad is that we are giving healthcare for “free” to those who don’t even contribute to the system. And to add insult to injury, these are the ones who are the most demanding patients. I guess it is more blessed to give than to receive, but I think we have to start with those from within that need it the most.

I know exactly what you’re saying as we are now in Phoenix. Not sure how much of my blog you’ve read, but I am a traveler. As a nurse, I know you know what this means. However, I will say this after having spent the summer in Washington, DC. I do not know the proportion legal vs illegal in either place, but I see much less of the “entitlement” attitude here than in DC. I know I am guilty of racial profiling here, but I do so only to make a point. The hispanic population in DC very much has the entitlement attitude. The whole attitude of “it is my right to get these benefits”. While here on Phoenix, much closer to the Mexican border, I find much more of a good old-fashioned work ethic. They seem much more willing to “get ahead” though hard work. Don’t know if it is the same in CA or not. Just my own very unscientific observations.
